For decades, the wrestling business was built on some nefarious villain coming to town, threatening the local hero and then getting his comeuppance in the end.

The bad guy was booed, the good guy was cheered. It was simple, but it worked for decades. But that doesn’t seem to be working so well these days.

This new paradigm seemed to really start with the nWo, as Kevin Nash and Scott Hall were the coolest guys in WCW. Fans in arenas across the country were decked out in the black and white colors, and cheered on their favorites, which happened to be the biggest a**holes around. However, it’s a full-on epidemic these days.

Kevin Owens is incredibly talented, but he doesn’t get a lot of heat. He’s too funny, he hits impressive high-spots that wow the crowd and fans respect the hell out of his journey from the indies to the WWE main event scene. When he won the Universal Title, he was greeted with a thunderous "You deserve it!" chant. Um...no he didn't. Triple H gave him the victory. But fans want to cheer the person, and choose to ignore the character's actions.

The same goes for Chris Jericho. While he’s really entertaining, anyone over the age of 12 has a hard time booing him. If he battles Neville in a match, who are you going to cheer? The guy with the bland personality, and no character development, or the guy who makes you laugh with his “get IT” and “stupid idiot” catchphrases?

Listen to old WWF matches, you won’t hear dual chants of “Ultimate Warrior!” “Honky Tonk Man!” “Ultimate Warrior!” “Honky Tonk Man!” Whether it’s the culture, bad booking, or the complete breakdown of kayfabe, a large shift has taken place, and due to the erosion of ratings over the years, perhaps not the right kind of shift.

However, there are still a few completely unlikable people in the professional wrestling business, but not many of them. The best pure heels are often far from the most talented (very, very far in some cases), but there’s nothing likable about them, making them easy to hate. Here are the 10 best going right now.
