Throughout the history of the sport, there have been some pretty horrific injuries and accidents, some of which have ended careers in the blink of an eye. There have been broken limbs, shattered spines and damaged brains, performers have been blinded, maimed and in extremely isolated cases €“ killed. While the increasingly safer, PG nature of larger wrestling corporations is generating a fall in the number of serious legitimate injuries we're seeing on a yearly basis, there's no way that safety can be 100% guaranteed. Manoeuvres can be black-listed, match types can be regulated and performing standards can be maintained through training programs, but there's still a tiny margin that can't be accounted for - human error. While it sounds grim; the only thing that any pro-wrestling promotion can really do is prepare for the worst and hope for the best. It's the same on almost every rung of the ladder - Smaller promotions and those that cater to the extreme side of things are trying just as hard to maintain a high level of safety as those at the very top, but (especially in the extreme sector), there's a level of danger that these promotions may be built on that can lead them to the emergency room more than others. So whether caused by foreign object or miscommunication, lack of skill or just plain dumb decision-making, here are 10 of the most horrifying wrestling injuries of all time.
