10 Insane Vince McMahon Stories Everybody Believes
Stranger than fiction.
Everyone who has spent more than five minutes in the company of Vince McMahon has a crazy story about Vince McMahon.
This is because, by all accounts, WWE's evil genius-cum-chairman is legitimately bonkers, practicing a brand of leadership not seen anywhere else in the business world (or anywhere, really, except perhaps for the White House).
Without a background in psychiatry, it's difficult to pinpoint exactly why Vince does half the bizarre things we're led to believe that he does. Some put it down to his upbringing, others cite the fact that he's surrounded by purported "Yes Men", while the rest of us just think he's mad with power.
Whatever the case, it's probably true that, without his crazy streak, he wouldn't have been half as successful in building the biggest wrestling promotion in the world from the ground up. After all, anyone who dedicates their life so squarely to one single ambition is probably at least a little bit eccentric.
In that sense, you have to give him some credit, while also acknowledging that he should probably seek some form of professional help if he hasn't done so already.
10. Fighting Kofi Kingston
Chris Jericho insists he wasn't trying to get Kofi Kingston fired, but merely help him get in the chairman's good books, by encouraging him to confront Vince McMahon after being on the receiving end of a one or two CEO-sized ribs whilst on promotional duty.
In the end, whether Y2J - who recounted the story years later in his autobiography - meant verbally or physically didn't matter, because Vince was happy to meet the Jamaican Sensation's challenge, fighting him in the aisle of his private jet, in what was referred to as a strong-spirited "wrestling match".
As ever, Jericho's instincts proved to be correct. Instead of a disciplinary hearing with HR, Kofi earned the respect of his boss, who apparently admired the undeniable courage that it took for a relatively lowly-ranking wrestler to stand up to the man that writes his paychecks.
Whatever you think about WWE's head honcho, you have to admire the fact that he is prepared to take an ass-kicking in the aid of sparking some fire in the belly of one of his employees. It's unorthodox, but so is the entire wrestling industry, of which Vince is one of the primary architects.
