10 Most Blatant Times WWE Tried To Rewrite Its Own History

It is written by the victors after all.

The comparisons between WWE and the country of North Korea have existed for many years.

Both are ruled over by one family with an iron grip on power. Both appear strange to outsiders, with only a select few knowing the real truth. And both have a neat little habit of rewriting history when it suits them.

WWE have been playing fast and loose with the truth for decades now. Wrestling might be fundamentally based on a lie, but the McMahon family and co. don't just bend the truth, they put it in the camel clutch, break its back, and make it humble.

Seeing as they are the masters of their own continuity, the company can just change the past whenever they feel like and there's nobody who can stop them. They also own the WWE Network and seem to take great pleasure in editing and outright removing stuff from it to fit their version of events.

From character backstories, to crucial moments in history, to behind-the-scenes drama, these ten moments prove that you should never ever trust a wrestling promoter.

Once a carny, always a carny.

10. Dean Who?

Let's kick things off with an example of very recent history being changed to suit WWE's narrative.

Ahead of Survivor Series 2022, the company have been promoting 10 Years of The Shield to mark a decade since the group's first appearance.

Promo videos for the show include footage of Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in their Shield days, as well as some of their accomplishments after the group disbanded. But wasn't there a third guy in that faction?

Aside from a couple of shots of him in the background, WWE have completely erased Dean Ambrose from these videos.

You know, the guy who was the de facto leader of The Shield? The guy who broke the longest US Title reign record whilst a member of the group? The guy who Rollins turned on to break them up?

It's clear to see why this has been done - Ambrose currently wrestles for AEW as Jon Moxley - but WWE come across as incredibly petty by so blatantly hiding Dean in these promos.

He might be the competition's top guy, but Ambrose had so many great moments in WWE that deserve to be celebrated.

Instead, the Lunatic Fringe just got clipped.
