After fading into the background, Awesome made an immediate impression in the WWE when he became the first Alliance invader to win a WWE Title after he captured the Hardcore Championship. After The Undertaker decided that he didn't know how to work, Awesome was left off most TVs and PPVs. He suffered a serious injury which kept him out for many months. When he returned he was thrown on Velocity and spent many more months jobbing to the likes of Funaki and Bull Buchanan. Awesome, who hated working in the WWE, was actually pleased when he was fired in September 2002. He received a measure of vindication at One Night Stand 2005, when he and Masato Tanaka completely stole the show with their heavy duty chairs and tables stunt show. It. almost erased the memory of all those wasted years spent on the weekend shows, wrestling guys who couldn't even lace his boots.
