10 Things We Learned From Eric Bischoff's Starrcade 1997 Podcast
HE DIDN'T HAVE A TAN!
Starrcade 1997 was a money-spinning night for World Championship Wrestling and one of the biggest pay-per-views (including non-wrestling ones) of the year. To Eric Bischoff, it was also the consummation of around 15/16 months of hard work and preparation to get Sting's 'Crow' character ready for nWo domination.
Was it worth it? Yes and no, and not everything went as planned.
This week, the Bisch and co-host Conrad Thompson examined whether or not Starrcade was as big a success as WCW hoped on their 83 Weeks podcast. They argued on several topics, agreed on some other things and explored in-depth Eric's frustrations when trying to pull everything together on the night.
If you happen to think the ex-WCW Vice President is full of it, this probably won't change your mind, but it's a fascinating piece of insight into the day-to-day running of a company that was growing fast. Eric does deserve some credit for refusing to take full responsibility for the excitement surrounding Starrcade.
