10 Times WWE Used Real Life Misery For Storyline Gains

WWE and bad taste; name a more iconic couple? Or better yet, make that WWE and the exploitation of real-life misery, maybe that fits better. That "name a more iconic trio" meme may well have been created for the unholy trinity of WWE, bad taste and exploitation of misery. That is the cynical view, of course, one man’s exploitation is another’s opportunity. After all, life should imitate art, right? Misery is awful in of itself, but misery left alone is even worse.
Is Drake Maverick still employed? The former Spud was one of many former WWE talents released on Black Wednesday, but the former General Manager of 205 Live still finds himself performing on weekly WWE television. What’s more, he might be the most heavily-profiled story in a tournament to crown a new WWE Cruiserweight Champion.
All of this came about when Spud posted an emotional video immediately following his release. This isn’t the first time that WWE has chosen to take real-life sadness and make it part of the story, and it sure as sh*t won’t be the last.
