Even though the United States Title was founded in 1975, WWE's own version of the belt didn't come to be until 2003. The title had been present in the company before then, but was recognised as the WCW United States Title. At Survivor Series 2001, Edge defeated Test to unify the belt with the Intercontinental Title.
In '03, WWE started a tournament to bring back the championship as a fully-fledged WWE belt. It was decreed that SmackDown needed a secondary title to match the Intercontinental belt on Raw. Eddie Guerrero was first in line to hold it, beating Chris Benoit at Vengeance in July, 2003 to win the brand spanking new WWE United States Title.
Since then, the belt has been on WWE television, but it hasn't always had the most illustrious shelf life. This article looks at 10 of the absolute worst WWE United States Title reigns. These men aren't necessarily poor performers - in fact, some are amongst the best. Instead, their reigns failed to live up to expectations for a number of reasons.
