Traditional wrestling (together with its many off-shoots) is a sport of genuinely ancient origins. Archaeological evidence reveals that wrestling was practiced in ancient India, Greece (the philosopher Plato was actually a wrestler), Egypt, Japan and pretty much everywhere else in the world. Professional wrestling (one such off-shoot) is also pretty old, having existed, in one form or another, since about the turn of the last century. That€™s a lot of ground to cover. What you€™ll get here, then, is a sort of €˜potted history€™ of the grapplers in question, together with how and why they changed the wrestling business forever.
