10 Wrestling Facts We Didn’t Know Last Week (Aug 10)
"The whole world wants to hug you"...
By the time Harper and Rowan defend their SmackDown Tag-Team Titles against The New Day at SummerSlam, they'll have been in the title hot seat for 133 days. That will make them the second-longest reigning champs yet (The Usos still hold the record with 182 days). Not bad for two guys who didn't get along when they were first lumped together.
That's right, The Bludgeon Brothers didn't want to be a team. Find out why in this week's article, along with a host of other amazing wrestling-related facts.
If you hate the design of WWE's Tag-Team Titles and wonder who was stupid enough to push for the Roman feel, then you're in for a treat. That's here, and so is a remarkable story about The Rock's time in The Nation Of Domination back in the late-90s. It's safe to say "Die Rocky Die" almost came true thanks to a bloodthirsty mob.
Elsewhere, there are facts about talent as varied as Nikolai Volkoff, Ultimo Dragon, Mae Young Classic entrant Isla Dawn, Becky Lynch and more. Ronda Rousey also has quite the story to tell about one Vince McMahon's emotional outburst...
10. Stephanie McMahon Was Responsible For The Copper Tag Titles
Blame Stephanie.
It was Vince McMahon's darling little girl who pressed WWE belt-maker Dave Millican on splashing that gladiatorial motif across the new Tag-Team Titles in 2010. That's not all, the tyrannical Raw Commissioner also demanded that Millican use copper to make the things.
Dave didn't want to, and he actually asked WWE to let him make the new titles out of anything but copper. He pitched silver, he pitched gold, he pitched a combination of both and even suggested nickel instead. Steph wasn't having any of it though, and she decreed the new titles had to be bronzed in copper.
Millican told this story on the Pancakes & Powerslams show. It was clear just by listening to him talk that he still thinks copper was the wrong call. In fairness to Stephanie, the choice was original; not many wrestling promotions have used copper, so it did help the new belts stand out.
