2 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Rampage (Jan 20)

Tony Khan really needs to think about where some AEW characters are going.

This week's Rampage was a bit of a disappointment.

Being honest, the lineup looked promising. Ethan Page vs. Jungle Boy? Yes please. Daniel Garcia vs. Action Andretti with consequences for the coming episode of Dynamite? Sure, sounds fun. Sadly, only one of those matches was worth your time, and it wasn't the latter JAS-influenced one.

Fans already know they're gonna get some decent wrestling when they tune into AEW programming. That's a given, but it isn't enough. Tony Khan needs a reminder that character development is actually important if he wants viewers to give a hoot about the men and women gracing his screens long-term.

The A-E-DUBYA boss is far too erratic when it comes to that side of things. That's presumably why Jade Cargill is spinning wheels yet again, and why Andretti is just the latest smiling high-flyer to grace this company's roster.

Was everything bad? No. Is this writer sometimes guilty of being a little too nitpicky? Probably. It does just feel like this show was the biggest afterthought of Khan's entire week, and that shouldn't be the case.
