When I got the call to be given the task of compiling WTF moments for WCW Monday Nitro from 1998, I was ecstatic since I'd watched these shows as a kid, but couldn't remember the specifics. The Monday Night Wars were in full swing and in January of 1998, WCW had been number one in the ratings for almost 70 consecutive weeks. The main thing I noticed when watching this show back is the variety of action going on, some good, some bad, but for whatever reason, my attention never wavered in the whole two hours of the show. There was such a wide range of characters and a massive stack of star power, it's easy to see why Nitro was number one while over on RAW, they were still tweaking their format to become a player in the Monday Night Wars again. So with that in mind, lets get you up to speed on what's going on in World Championship Wrestling at the beginning of 1998. Sting won the WCW World title from Hogan at Starrcade 97 in controversial fashion thanks to a crooked referee and Bret Hart ringing the bell after a Scorpion deathlock. The next night on Nitro, Sting defended the title against Hogan but the show went off the air while the match was in progress. Fans were waiting to hear what happened and the status of the WCW Championship. Meanwhile, the nWo are experiencing dissension in the ranks as Savage, Hall, Hogan and Nash all seem to be at loggerheads after their plan of Bischoff beating Larry Zybysko at Starrcade and taking over Nitro ultimately failed. Now that we've set that all up, let's take a look at 30 WTF Moments from January 5th 1998's WCW Monday Nitro live from the Georgia Dome....
30. The Limo Driver Hates The nWo
You know what it's like.... You're a WCW fan, Sting's your favourite, then your limo company calls you and tells you that your pick up on Monday afternoon is a group booking and it turns out to be the new World order. That's what happened to big Frank the limo driver here at the start of Nitro. Look at him. He looks raging that he's having to drive the nWo to the Georgia Dome. But Frank's a professional, so even though he looks miserable, he went ahead and did his job. What a pro!
