5 Potential Power Couples WWE Could Use Post-SummerSlam 2017

Hopefully more Macho Man & Elizabeth and less HHH & Stephanie. Please, HHH & Stephanie, never again.

WWE is short on power couples these days.

Mike and Maria Kanellis have stumbled out of the gate, Lana and Rusev have been split up (again), and Nikki Bella is gone for the time being. At the same time, Miz and Maryse are weaker since the move to Raw, which basically leaves us with Carmella and James Ellsworth. (Hunter and Steph are also off TV right now, but that's actually a good thing.)

This means that there's room for a new power couple to fill the vacuum. With strong Women's Championships on both brands, the possibility of title-holding pairs could mean something more than it ever has before. Imagine a US Champion / Women's Champion pairing, or even a World Title / Women's Title pairing. That could be something special.

It's not like the formula hasn't worked in the past. Macho Man Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth were an iconic duo, and although Randy was fantastic on his own, there's no denying that Elizabeth helped his career immensely. Edge and Lita were a dastardly pairing that solidified Edge as the ultimate opportunist, a conniving calculating villain.

Even in Impact/GFW, the intense feud between Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards engulfed their real-life relationships, as Alicia Edwards and Angelina Love joined the fray. That made for some great, intense matches.

The post-SummerSlam stretch is the perfect time to establish a new power couple in WWE, and here are five possible pairings.

5. Cesaro And Sara Del Ray

Although this is by far the longest shot, given McMahon's reservations about Cesaro's Swiss-ness, a pairing of technical wizards like these two could dominate the mid-card or the upper mid-card with ease.

Sara has never been given a chance to shine on the main roster -- heck, her biggest NXT appearance was being honored at the Mae Young Classic tapings -- and for someone who, outside WWE, has gone toe-to-toe with Asuka in a barnburner of a match, it would be awesome to see her run roughshod over less experienced wrestlers. (There's even a great angle there with the trainer-trainee relationship that would no doubt exist between her and several competitors.)

And Cesaro... millions of words have already been written about how great he is, both in-ring and out. And although his pairing with Sheamus has been surprisingly great, letting him work those creative finishes as part of a power couple would be just as great. A dominating heel Cesaro is the best Cesaro.
