5 WWE Smackdown Draft Picks That Ruled (And 5 That Sucked)
The blue brand weren't ALWAYS short-changed, but when they were...
The wrestling world is still buzzing at the news that the draft split is returning, meaning exclusive rosters for Raw and Smackdown, with title belts set to be exclusive to particular shows and the probably introduction of a new, secondary World Title. This is all exciting stuff, as it marks the first time the brand extension has been in effect since August 2011.
The draft is scheduled to take place sometime in June/July, before Smackdown goes live (another business-changing proposition). Despite going live, Smackdown has some reason to be worried heading into the draft. After all, tape delay or no, WWE have always perceived it as being the 'B' show to Raw's 'A' show.
That's something that has been reflected in previous drafts, as Smackdown were routinely stripped of their top stars without fair compensation. it's a story that played out time and time again, as the blue brand fought an uphill battle against its red counterpart.
Of course, Smackdown wasn't always shafted. On the contrary, many draft picks ended up helping the show in big ways. But it was inconsistent and happened with far less frequency than the producers, writers and other talent of the show would have liked.
With the spotlight on Smackdown due to the announcement that it is soon to be airing live, coupled with the blockbuster news that a draft split will once again be in effect, let's take a look at 5 Smackdown draft picks that ruled and five that sucked.
