6 Reasons Women's Money In The Bank Ladder Match Must Happen This Year
The time is right for the ladies to try and climb the ladder.
The 2017 edition of Money in the Bank is less than a month away. This gimmicked ladder match is some 12 years old now, and whilst it still provides its fair share of excitement, the truth is it could do with a shot in the arm. What better way to do so than by letting the women in on the fun?
The idea of an all-female Money in the Bank ladder match is nothing new. Ever since Stephanie McMahon hijacked the women's wrestling revolution in WWE in the summer of 2015, a number of firsts have fallen by the wayside. The women have had had new championships introduced, competed inside Hell in a Cell, headlined pay-per-views and more.
The time is right for the women to be let loose on ladders. A solid argument can almost certainly be made against the idea, but none of that negativity and pessimism is needed here. A women's Money in the Bank ladder match simply must happen.
6. To Introduce New Talent Into The Division
If we disregard Nikki Bella for the time being, the SmackDown Live women's division consists of just seven competitors - Naomi, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Carmella, Natalya, Tamina Snuka, and Lana. This alone seems to make a ladder match impossible. Naomi will surely have to defend her title sooner or later, and if we take out a challenger that leaves just five competitors for the match. Not just five competitors, but five competitors including Tamina Snuka and Lana.
But what use is the NXT conveyor belt if not to bolster the ranks of the main roster? NXT's women's division is in a strange spot right now - the amount of talent is increasing almost as rapidly as Asuka's dominance. The Empress of Tomorrow is seemingly unbeatable in developmental, meaning a whole host of performers are spinning their wheels until Asuka loses.
Champions are right to fear the winner of Money in the Bank, but that fear would be increased tenfold if it was Asuka who took home the briefcase. The match could also be a way to introduce talent such as Peyton Royce and Billie Kay onto the main roster - though it'd be admittedly unfair for them to leapfrog the NXT champ.
