A Dynamite that was more encouraging than great. Are the Elite...actually back?!
Ah sh*t, here we go again: another less than engaging AEW 2023 pay-per-view build that desperately needed some white-hot promo work on the go-home show to drags its convoluted, unfocused storytelling over the line.
AEW has asked a lot of questions pertaining to the main event scene in recent weeks: who is the Devil? When is Wardlow going to strike down MJF? Doesn't 'Worlds End' A) require an apostrophe and B) sound rather a lot like the event at which MJF loses the World title?
The simple and very necessary question - can Jay White win the big one? - was asked, but AEW hardly insisted. So much signposting of what happens to MJF next hasn't exactly made that outcome a toss up.
Hangman Page showed great fire much too late in the game, and while the words "Texas Death" are a guarantee of glorious pro wrestling violence in AEW lore, the notion that Hangman Page took longer than right then and there to beat the piss out of Swerve Strickland for cutting a promo on his wean effectively killed the credibility of that programme.
The Young Bucks are wrestling their mate again on Saturday, picking the best one this time at least, but isn't that passé at this point? Could AEW make it feel like the Bucks seem...present, and that they still care about excelling within wrestling?
