8 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Sep 23)
Cody returns, Moxley vs. Kingston, Lee vs. Cassidy, and more.
The ongoing global health crisis is a cloud over last night's episode of AEW Dynamite following Sean Ross Sapp and Jon Alba's report that several wrestlers tested positive at the company's 9 September television tapings. Said wrestlers were absent from this show, as was Lance Archer, who confirmed he had been diagnosed with the illness after coming into contact with a sick family member, forcing a reshuffle.
AEW has conducted tests since day one. They have taken greater measures than any other American wrestling promotion to prevent things like this from happening, yet the risk level can never be reduced to zero. For as long as there isn't a vaccine, outbreaks are going to happen, meaning all we can do is hope that those involved make full recoveries.
Archer's positive test meant Eddie Kingston stepping up against Jon Moxley, scoring himself an AEW World Title shot after never being eliminated from All Out's Casino Battle Royale. Brodie Lee's TNT Championship defence against Orange Cassidy went ahead as planned, albeit with a massive surprise, while Hikaru Shida and Thunder Rosa teamed to face Ivelisse and Diamante, Hangman Page wrestled Evil Uno, and Miro made his in-ring debut.
Let's light the fuse...
