The Royal Rumble event was a thrilling show, with a solid undercard and exceptional main event. Whether it was Chris Jericho's fifty minute showing, or AJ Styles' exhilarating debut, there was plenty going on to make it one of the best Rumble matches in years. Triple H walking out as the new WWE Champion ensures it will go down in history. WWE claim all the time that the Rumble is 'historic' - this one really was. As is always the case with the Rumble match, the primary purpose is to set up the WrestleMania main event, but it also foreshadows much of the 'Mania undercard, and this year was no different. Several clues gave a revealing look at what fans could expect on April 3. Let's get straight to it, with the match that looks most certain of all.
9. Triple H Vs. Roman Reigns
You can pretty much bank on this one - Roman Reigns will get a rematch for the WWE Title against Triple H at WrestleMania. Some fans have speculated they could do it at Fastlane and go with something else at 'Mania, but really, Hunter and Reigns looks like it has been the plan for a while. The angle started back at TLC, with Reigns destroying The Game. The Rumble was then booked with the 'Mania main event in mind - Hunter would win the title via The Authority screwing Reigns. The logical narrative progression from that is the babyface getting his revenge and winning the gold back in the WrestleMania main event. On paper, it sounds good, and the match has the potential to be excellent. Both men are very good performers and will certainly bring it on the grand stage. But as the Rumble crowd demonstrated, a smark factor may end up sucking out much of the meaning. Nevertheless, Hunter wants to main event the biggest 'Mania of all-time, and that's that.
