Both men have dropped the same social media tease within the past 12 hours, that being a still image from their only singles match together.

Nakamura struck first, posting the shot to his Instagram story. Cole has since followed up by re-posting it to his own:-

Cole wrestled Nakamura at a set of Ring of Honor television tapings in August 2015. This came two years before the future Undisputed Era man signed with WWE, and was a product of the once-booming ROH/NJPW working relationship.

Whether or not this ties into Cole's current situation is anyone's guess. The 32-year-old's WWE contract is set to expire this Friday (27 August). He is yet to sign a new deal after initially coming to a short-term agreement to work through SummerSlam 2021 weekend following his original contract's expiration in July, though WWE is expected to make another offer by the end of the week (if it hasn't already).

Nakamura is currently active on WWE SmackDown. The post above could be seen as a tease of him and Cole working together in the future, but wrestlers are wrestlers - and they're always working.
