Adam Cole Told WWE This Contract Clause Was "Non-Negotiable"
WWE knew they "didn't have much leverage" when negotiating with Adam Cole.
Adam Cole told WWE that he wasn't willing to give up his Twitch account during contract negotiations.
Fightful Select are reporting that the former NXT star considered this clause "non-negotiable" during discussions. That, in turn, meant that WWE officials were less-than-excited about the thought of sitting down with Cole recently - they didn't think they had "much leverage" during discussions.
According to reports, the Twitch deal was made crystal clear "well ahead" of Cole's contract actually expiring. Basically, he made WWE aware that any requests to take away his gaming streams would be met with firm resistance. In fact, they'd be seriously problematic and could make talks impossible.
It's admirable that the wrestler stuck to his guns in the face of serious pressure.
Cole's contract ran out this past July, but it's believed that WWE were frosty on talks for months before that. They knew that the former Undisputed Era leader and multi-time NXT Champion wouldn't be receptive to third party bans, and that was always going to be an issue on their end.
Fans on social media have been hyping up the chances of Cole appearing on AEW's All Out pay-per-view this Sunday.
