AEW Negotiating "Best TV Deal Since WCW", Two Stations Interested
Plus: Pentagón and Fenix deals NOT exclusive.
Speaking on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that Shahid Khan's All Elite Wrestling is currently in talks with two major television stations over a deal to bring the product to our screens.
Meltzer did not mention the names of the networks in question, but noted that "it's real money, real stations", and that it'll represent "the best TV deal any non-WWE show has had since WCW". AEW's most recent meeting with television executives was said to have went "real well."
Any deal AEW makes doesn't have to do an awful lot to beat the best of WWE's rivals in the post-monopoly landscape, but the veteran journalist noted that it's considerably bigger than Impact's agreement with Spike - the current benchmark - in terms of prestige and finance.
Meltzer also confirmed that a working arrangement seemingly solidified with Mexican stars Pentagón Jr. and Fenix will not allow exclusive use of the talent, with the pair still committed to the on-hiatus Lucha Underground. However, The Lucha Brothers dropped their MLW World Tag Team Championship straps to Teddy Hart & Davey Boy Smith Jr. last night, presumably to clear their schedule for AEW commitments.
