AEW Planning For Grand Slam To Be An Annual New York Event
If Tony Khan gets his way, AEW will be putting on Grand Slam in New York every year.
With the much-hyped AEW Grand Slam happening later this week, Tony Khan has revealed how he hopes to make the event an annual occurrence that takes place from New York's Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio (as per Wrestling Inc) to discuss all things Grand Slam, Khan enthused:
"It's pretty amazing when you can be the first wrestling show in such a historic, awesome venue that's very famous worldwide. It's known throughout American as the home of the US Open, but the US Open is watched in most countries in the world. It's a pretty prestigious event and it's cool that the Park District and the US Open folks agreed to have AEW Grand Slam. I'm really hoping it's something we can do in New York with Arthur Ashe Stadium every year."
For AEW Grand Slam, that will take place across this week's episodes of both Dynamite and Rampage - with Rampage being special two-hour show this time out.
As it stands, Dynamite will see Bryan Danielson vs. Kenny Omega in a non-title match, Ruby Soho vs. Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. for Baker's AEW Women's Championship, Cody Rhodes vs. Malakai Black, Brian Pillman Jr. vs. MJF, Sting & Darby Allin vs. FTR, and a live promo from CM Punk.
For Rampage, the advertised card for Friday's show has CM Punk vs. Powerhouse Hobbs, Adam Cole & The Young Bucks vs. Christian Cage & Jurassic Express, Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston vs. Minoru Suzuki & Lance Archer, Anna Jay vs. Penelope Ford, The Lucha Bros. & Pride & Powerful vs. Private Party & The Butcher & The Blade, and Chris Jericho & Jake Hager vs. The Men of the Year.
Both nights look absolutely stacked, and hope is high amongst wrestling fans that AEW delivers another spectacular couple of nights of pro wrestling action during their stay in Queens, New York.
