AEW Star Admits Regrets About His Debut

Things didn't quite pan out the way this current AEW star and ex-WWE man wanted them to.

Matt Hardy has admitted he wishes he'd debuted in AEW as "a regular version" of himself instead of the wacky 'Broken' character.

The current All Elite star told the Daily Mail that landing on Dynamite as 'Broken' was a mistake in retrospect, but he obviously couldn't have predicted the global pandemic that forced wrestling promotions to play before empty arenas every single week in 2020.

Matt debuted on 18 March, which was eerily close to the World Health Organisation declaring COVID-19 as a worldwide concern on 11 March. Basically, Hardy brought one of his most "fan-driven" characters back to TV when there were no fans in arenas to help it.

That bummed him out, and meant his AEW career got off to a bizarre start.

Looking back, Hardy wishes he'd been able to hit pause for a week or two then come in as "one half of the Hardy Boys" instead (sans Jeff). He reckons that would've made the transition easier, then he could've used the 'Broken' offshoot once people began flocking back to buildings for live wrestling.

Again though, there's just no way anyone could've predicted what happened in March 2020.
