AEW Wrestler Hospitalised After Testing Positive
Keep your fingers crossed.
Ryo Mizunami, who wrestled for the AEW Women's World Championship this year, has been hospitalised.
A post made to Mizunami's Twitter account confirmed as much on Wednesday morning. Translated, the update states that the Japanese star underwent a PCR test on Monday (26 July), having sufferedg from a fever. Ryo has now entered hospital after showing signs of pneumonia per her doctor's diagnosis.
Mizunami's hospitalisation comes in the midst of a spate of positive COVID-19 tests on the independent joshi scene, where wrestlers regularly work for multiple companies at once.
A SEAdLINNNG show on 22 July hosted Ryo's last match. Two of her six-person tag opponents, Nanae Takahashi and Honori Hana, are amongst those who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Debuting for All Elite Wrestling at the original Double Or Nothing in May 2019, Mizunami returned to compete in the Women's World Title Eliminator Tournament earlier this year. Winning that competition bought her a shot at Hikaru Shida's title at Revolution 2021, where she was unsuccessful, but she stuck around until late April regardless, working primarily on Dark: Elevation.
Mizunami left the United States and returned to Japan in June, competing for groups like SEAdLINNNG, Gatoh Move, and Sendai Girls.
All the best to Ryo in her recovery.
