AEW's Jim Ross Shoots On Wrestlers 'Who Don't Like To Do Jobs'
"That'll make a headline!"
AEW announcer Jim Ross roasted any wrestlers who might not fancy doing a job for one of their peers on his 'Grilling JR' podcast.
The iconic commentary great said he's sick of seeing 50/50 booking in today's companies, and doesn't see excuses like, "We want to keep the talent happy" as valid. Rather definitively, Ross said, "F*ck the talent", then told cohost Conrad Thompson, "How's that? That'll make a headline!".
As usual, Jim has a point. It's not uncommon to see someone go over one week then return the favour on the very next show. This does nothing for JR, and it's something he's spoken about on his pod before - he thinks this approach keeps everyone in the same lane rather than creating stars.
Ross is particularly frosty when Thompson brings up "someone's push". Regular listeners to his show will know that Jim often pokes fun at the idea of protecting "one's push" even when it's harmful to business.
According to JR, jobs are part and parcel of the industry. If someone is unable to do them without enhancing their opponent and maintaining their own aura, then they're in the wrong gig.
