WWE's hopes to convince the Saudi Arabian government to allow them to promote a women's match at Friday's Super ShowDown in Jeddah fell on deaf ears, as the government refused permission.
Alexa Bliss and Natalya had flown to the country in the vague hope that the anti-diluvian administration would allow a match to go ahead, but alas, once more the Saudi show was entirely free from any female performers (minus Renee Young on commentary, wrapped up and notably complaining about the heat).
Early indications suggested the ruling family were set to grant WWE's wishes - and give their latest cash-grab in the country a PR boost - but ultimately, they went for the retrograde option.
The company retains hope that a women's match will be agreed for November's return to the Middle East, though given the vacillation on this occasion, it doesn't seem massively likely.
Both Natalya and Alexa Bliss joined fellow WWE superstars visiting hospitalised children in Jeddah, but neither made an appearance at Jeddah's King Abdullah International Stadium.
