Kenny Omega returned to AEW on last night's episode of Dynamite, working his first match for the promotion following a nine-month injury absence.

It was a big moment for the former World Champion, who, amongst other issues, endured a gruelling recovery from knee and shoulder injuries, vertigo, and a sports hernia during his time away from the ring. Now, Fightful Select has come through with an update on his situation.

Omega, whose vertigo was induced by a Kazuchika Okada dropkick (the duo haven't shared a ring since September 2018), had told Fightful that at the time of his departure, he had so many issues to deal with that he couldn't put surgery off any longer. The 38-year-old had been out of action since November 2021.

Plans for Kenny to return at June's collaborative event with NJPW, Forbidden Door, didn't work out, and Omega pulled himself from the road after briefly returning behind the scenes as it was hindering his recovery.

When AEW shifted away from an originally planned FTR vs. Young Bucks but, several people within the company were told that this was due to Omega's impending comeback. AEW founder and CEO Tony Khan had previously commented that he was holding off on introducing Trios World Championships until Omega was fit and ready to go. Kenny wrestled in the first round last night, teaming with the Bucks to fell La Faccion Ingobernable.

And if you were wondering why Omega rarely appeared in the public eye during his time away from the ring, Fightful notes that this was by design. The Canadian generally kept a low profile, appearing only in the occasional interview, though he utilised various outlets to deliver updates on his physical condition as he recovered.
