Backstage Update On Dolph Ziggler's WWE SummerSlam 2019 Plans
Could Ziggler face The Miz or Shawn Michaels on 11 August?
Dolph Ziggler starred in one of SmackDown's strongest segments this week, with 'The Show-Off' interrupting Shawn Michaels' guest spot on MizTV to banter both 'HBK' and the host off, having seemingly revived his ages-old feud with Miz on a recent episode of Raw.
A smartly-written back-and-forth saw Shawn and Dolph dive into the long-running comparisons between the two. It concluded with Ziggler blasting Michaels with a Superkick intended for Miz, before 'The A-Lister' ran him off, leading to speculation that Dolph might be set to face one of the two at SummerSlam.
Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be the case. Dave Meltzer noted in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there are currently no plans for 'The Show-Off' to do anything at the 11 August pay-per-view, let alone face Miz or Michaels.
This begs the question of why the segment was put together in the first place, though Vince McMahon's reported last-minute SmackDown rewrite may go some way to explaining that. Either way, it was an entertaining showdown between three strong personalities, and while it'd be a shame if nothing came of it, at least it delivered on the night.
