Botched Ending In Recent WWE Raw Main Event?
Vince McMahon is apparently very strict when it comes to his tag team rules.
This week's Monday Night Raw main event reportedly had a botched ending, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Last Monday's show-closing bout saw The Hurt Business (Shelton Benjamin, Bobby Lashley and Cedric Alexander) facing off against WWE's newest heel stable Retribution (T-Bar, Mace and Slapjack). This contest ended in a DQ after T-Bar struck Lashley as he had his Full Nelson submission locked on Slapjack.
However, it has now been revealed that this ending was actually botched. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the match was supposed to end with an eye-poke and not the attempted save.
According to Vince McMahon's WWE tag team wrestling rules, an illegal wrestler can not be caught hitting a legal performer by the referee of they will be instantly disqualified. Yet, this rule doesn't apply when a star is performing a save and breaking up a pinning or submission attempt, executing a double-team move or pulling off the attack behind the ref's back.
Following these rules, T-Bar shouldn't have actually been disqualified in the main event as he was technically performing a save. However, the DQ was suddenly called because any eye-pokes or other illegal blows have to be classed as an immediate disqualification whenever a ref catches them.
None of this mattered in the end, as the chaos which followed definitely overshadowed the match itself. But, it's interesting to note how strict Vince McMahon is when it comes to the layout of his tag team encounters.
