According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, Brock Lesnar is confirmed for 19 August's SummerSlam - though in what capacity, he did not reveal.

Brock's WWE status has been in some considerable - if not largely manufactured - doubt ever since his last Universal Title defence at The Greatest Royal Rumble back in April. Lesnar has not appeared on WWE TV since the Saudi Arabia supershow, with suggestions that his contract is set to expire after SummerSlam further fueled by the champ's challenge to Daniel Cormier at UFC 226 last Saturday.

WWE were not shy about promoting Brock's MMA incursion. It seems as if his jaunt back to the Octagon has the company's approval, serving as part of a wider scheme to encourage fan resentment towards the stay-away champ before an inevitable title defeat by Roman Reigns. So far, the effect has been all-round apathy, not antipathy. This past week, Raw's ratings slumped to an all-time low.

The main event for this Sunday's Extreme Rules, a clash between powerhouses Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley, had originally been slated as a 'No. 1 contender's match'. That nominal stipulation was later nixed, but it remains informally the case.
