For those hoping to see Cesaro competing somewhere other than WWE in the future, it looks like you’ll have to wait a little longer.

As per Dave Meltzer over at the Wrestling Observer, Cesaro is said to have signed, or at least verbally agreed to sign, a new WWE contract. At this time, there’s no word on just how long this new deal is – just that the Swiss Superman will be remaining with Vince McMahon’s sports entertainment juggernaut for the foreseeable future. As for his previous/existing deal, that was reportedly due to expire after WrestleMania 37.

In an interesting additional nugget, Meltzer also claims that Cesaro was originally planned to run the gauntlet and get screwed on SmackDown a couple of weeks. It was actually Daniel Bryan who came up with doing a Gauntlet Match for a shot at Roman Reigns’ Universal Championship, and it was to be Cesaro who was to get the spot that ultimately went to Shinsuke Nakamura. The reason why the King of Strong Style got the nod instead of the Swiss Cyborg, was due to Cesaro having not agreed upon a new deal at that point in time.

If WWE was prepared to go through with having the one-time United States Champion and seven-time WWE Tag Team Champion be put in such a pivotal spot during the aforementioned Gauntlet Match, here’s hoping the company has some big plans for the Swiss moving forward.
