Originally released from his WWE contract in 2013, indie wrestling titan Chris Hero is finally back in NXT. Last night's TV tapings saw him return to action using his old Kassius Ohno ring name, and WWE have made the news official after a glut of photos and videos hit social media.

Tajiri and NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura had just finished wrestling a tag match with Bobby Roode and Samoa Joe when Ohno's old music hit. The suit-clad star strode out onto the stage and made his way to the ring for a showdown with Nakamura. Ohno started unbuttoning his jacket, but he elbowed the NXT Title on Nakamura's shoulder instead of attacking, then left.

The appearance is expected to air on January 25th: the last episode of NXT before Takeover: Toronto, where Nakamura will defend his title against Roode.

Ohno is coming off a banner year on the independent circuit, where barely a week passed without him producing a Match of the Year candidate in companies like EVOLVE and PROGRESS. The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer originally reported his return over the festive period, and last night's appearance makes it official.

Below are a handful of photos and videos from Ohno's appearance, including the obligatory Triple H handshake shot:-
