CM Punk's surgery was a complete success, according to UFC VP of public relations Dave Sholler. Punk had been bothered by a herniated disc since his pro wrestling days, but over the past month, it had worsened to the point where he was unable to train. Sholler noted that "everything went well" and that Punk is "in great spirits." He also said that Punk is "out to prove a lot of people wrong." After months of speculation (and a knee injury last summer that put Punk on the shelf), the former WWE Champion's first opponent was announced as Mickey Gall. Their fight was tentatively scheduled for UFC 199, but Punk's injury will hold it off until a later event. Dave Meltzer is reporting that Punk will need to wait another four to six weeks to start training again, meaning that UFC 200 or 201 could potentially host his debut. Punk's sense of humor came through the surgery unscathed, as he tweeted the following: https://twitter.com/CMPunk/status/697529586507091968/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw
