Cody Rhodes Reveals Vince McMahon's Only WWE "Promise" After Leaving AEW
Vince McMahon didn't shower Cody Rhodes with promises after trading AEW for WWE, but...
Vince McMahon only made one "promise" to Cody Rhodes when the wrestler agreed to leave AEW and rejoin WWE.
Cody told 'The MMA Hour' that Vince jetted out to meet him in person, then asked: "Would you wrestle Seth Rollins at WrestleMania?". When Rhodes said yes, he would, Vince then revealed that this one match was his only promise to the returning star.
McMahon didn't discuss anything beyond that first bout vs. Rollins - he didn't talk about possible World Title wins, Royal Rumble successes or anything else. His only goal was to get Cody back under the WWE roof and book him with Seth on the biggest weekend of the year.
That was absolutely fine with Rhodes.
He also told Ariel Helwani on the show that he "didn't need any other promises" anyway. Cody had made his mind up about returning to the WWE fold, and knew he'd be able to work a great match with Rollins. The pair had so much chemistry that 'Mania wound up being the first of three bumper pay-per-view clashes.
It's interesting that Vince kept his cards so close to his chest during that initial meeting.
