Ex-WWE star Mickie James, who trended on social media after receiving some personal items in unflattering bin bags, told Renee Paquette's 'Oral Sessions' podcast that she felt like a "middle player" towards the end of her run.

James was delighted that WWE acknowledged her as a legend and multi-time former Women's Champion, but admitted that she was sitting around waiting for "a defining thing" to happen during her latest stint. It never did - Mickie was used sporadically as a bit-part worker, and that caused a lot of frustration for her.

She badly wanted to do something meaningful rather than just "being in the mix".

Mickie has also spoken out about ageism in the promotion. The 41 year old still looks incredible, but always believed WWE would never do anything worthwhile with her because of her age. That meant she had to sit around backstage spinning her wheels and feeding off scraps here and there.

It's pretty sad to hear somebody of James' standing talk about such negative experiences. She undoubtedly deserved a better sense of closure with WWE than she ended up getting.

Being a "middle player" didn't cut it.
