Former WWE man Simon Dean thinks fellow company alumni Maven deserves way more credit than he gets from fans and industry critics alike.

Dean told Fightful that pro wrestling "chewed [Maven] up and spit him out a little bit". He believes to this day that the original Tough Enough winner was never given a fair chance to improve on early potential before he was suddenly discarded by the promotion in 2004.

During the interview, Simon recalled "breaking down matches" for Maven and explaining why wrestlers do certain things at specific points. The rookie had limited knowledge of the ins and outs of basic psychology, presumably because he'd been fast-tracked straight to the main roster without nailing down the fundamentals first.

Dean always thought that was a shame; Maven's lack of experience was typically used as a stick to beat him with, but he was never going to be some super-switched on in-ring general without being properly trained. So, Simon tried to be patient with the guy, and says he enjoyed working alongside him whenever they had the chance.

The former Nova also called Maven "a class act".
