Ex-WWE Star Talks Being "Fired During A Pandemic"
"That's not how I thought my relationship with WWE was going to end".
Maria Kanellis has lashed out at WWE for the "cold" way they fired her "during a pandemic".
Maria and husband Mike appeared on the 'ROH Strong' podcast to discuss recent events, and that's when the former laid into her old employer for the manner of her release. She claims she was blindsided by it, and didn't think that's how her relationship with WWE would end.
The family were on their way back from a doctor's appointment with their newly-born baby boy in April when WWE called to let Maria know her contract was being terminated. That, considering her pregnancy had been a big storyline on TV and something Kanellis was told would "mean something" long term, totally caught Maria off guard.
She added, "It was just sad to me", and says it didn't sit well that WWE didn't call to ask her about labour or how her recovery from pregnancy was going; the only phone call she received was to fire her.
Kanellis criticised WWE for being a "family-based company" who would act so coldly. She ended by saying she "felt like a number" instead of a human being when the call came in.
