Ex-WWE Wrestler Recalls Thinking He Had "Blown It"
This WWE star was worried his main roster call up wouldn't happen. Here's why.
Tyson Kidd thought he'd "blown" any chance of a main roster call up back in 2009.
Kidd told the WINCLY podcast that Billy Kidman pulled him aside to say that WWE were planning to debut him on the next week's episode of ECW. What's more, Tyson would be getting his real-life lover Natalya as a valet for the appearance.
Naturally, the rookie got excited and started to think about things he could do during the match. Before then, WWE brought in agents like Arn Anderson and Fit Finlay to have a look at Kidd - he wrestled a tryout match in front of them, and...it didn't go well.
Both Arn and Fit heavily criticised the bout and "weren’t that happy with it". Backstage, Kidd put his head into his own hands and thought for sure he'd wrecked any chances of getting called up to TV. He was also worried that word would get back to Vince McMahon that he was "terrible".
That didn't happen.
Later that day, a producer on ECW called Tyson to let him know the plans for his debut. That put his mind at rest.
