In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that SmackDown's latest new face has officially put pen to paper on a fresh deal with WWE in the wake of being called up from NXT.

This all reportedly went down last week, and as Meltzer explained in the newsletter, Lee choosing not to sign with AEW back when both companies were looking to bring in the masked sensation appears to have worked out pretty well for the exciting luchador.

Meltzer also recalled how Lee originally asked a number of folks who knew the American wrestling scene whether it would be wise to sign with Tony Khan's promotion, with those people telling the star that he'd likely get lost in the shuffle there.

But not too long ago, folks would have likely advised the young talent to perhaps steer clear of all things sports entertainment as, outside of the like of Alberto Del Rio, Mexican talents have largely struggled within the WWE system.

Lee's decision to sign with WWE and spend a little time in NXT before making the jump up to the main roster, though, has clearly benefitted both parties.

Lee has been presented as a hot potential superstar of tomorrow and earned himself a new deal, while WWE may have finally found the masked successor to the iconic Rey Mysterio.
