G.L.O.W: Netflix's Ladies Wrestling Series Gets First Teaser Trailer & Premiere Date
Prepare to get into the ring on June 23!
Netflix have finally announced when we can see G.L.O.W., a TV series based on the eponymous wrestling promotion from the 1980s.
The show will premiere globally on Netflix on June 23, with all 10 episodes of the first season to be released. There's also a brief teaser to go with the date announcement, which doesn't show an awful lot, but does at least capture the tone and spirit we can expect from the series.
G.L.O.W. will star Alison Brie (Community, Mad Men) as Ruth Wilder, a down-on-her-luck actress in Los Angeles who, as per the official synopsis, "finds one last chance for stardom when she’s thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women’s wrestling."
There, she'll work with 12 Hollywood misfits, a former soap star (Betty Gilpin), and the has-been, coke-snorting director behind it all (Marc Maron).
The series comes from Liz Flahive (Homeland) and Carly Mensch (Orange is the New Black), with Jenji Kohan and Tara Herrmann (both also OITNB) serving as executive producers.
Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling started in Las Vegas back in the 80s. As opposed to actual wrestlers, most of the women were wannabe actresses, dancers, models, and stuntwomen, hoping to catch a break in show business. It was filmed more like a traditional TV series than WWE(/F), with breaks between seasons, and became known for its colourful characters and OTT comedy sketches.
