GFW 'Hemorrhaging Funds', Future In The Balance Following Jeff Jarrett's Departure
Owners Anthem may sell amidst reports of financial trouble.
The promotion formerly known as TNA are once again facing an uncertain future.
Reports that GFW Chief Creative Office Jeff Jarrett was taking an "indefinite leave of absence" from the company emerged yesterday. They were followed by the revelation that parent company Anthem hadn't yet finalised their merger with Jarrett's brand despite undergoing a full rebranding in June, and now, Sports Illustrated's Justin Barrasso claims that the promotion's owners may be looking to sell.
As per the write-up, GFW is "haemorrhaging funds," with their sources claiming that Anthem are on the verge of leaving the wrestling business. They have reportedly gutted their Fight Network to finance GFW, but have been unable to turn the promotion into a profitable enterprise.
Interestingly, Anthem would be selling the writes to Impact Wrestling, not GFW, as Jarrett still owns all Global Force Wrestling trademarks. WWE are expected to top the list of potential suitors.
The promotion have been blighted by rumours of impending doom for years. This makes it easy to be cynical when such stories are arise, but if SI's report is accurate, Anthem's ownership has done nothing to quell the longstanding instability. It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, comes of this story.
