Just as WWE says goodbye to one 50-plus-year-old part-timer who goes over full-time talent, it looks like they're welcoming back another.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select is reporting that Goldberg is expected to return to the company "imminently," with plans to work the upcoming Saudi "premium live event," Elimination Chamber.

The Fightful Select report goes on to note that current plans call for Goldberg challenging Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship. Those with long memories will recall that this match originally was slated to take place at WrestleMania 36, with Goldberg defending, but Reigns pulled out due to the early days of the pandemic. Instead, Braun Strowman challenged Goldberg and defeated him.

Given that the Saudi show is less than three weeks away and Reigns doesn't have an opponent yet, this is definitely a strong possibility, though we've seen WWE change its plans -- especially recently -- numerous times in a short period.

There are conflicting accounts on whether this would be the last match on Goldberg's contract -- he has stated that in the past -- or if WWE would be bringing him in through WrestleMania 38.

The 55-year-old Hall-of-Famer last competed in October's Crown Jewel PPV (way back when they were still called that), also in Saudi Arabia. At that show, Goldberg defeated Bobby Lashley in a No Holds Barred, Falls Count Anywhere match to pay off a feud that involved Lashley laying out Goldberg's son Gage.
