WWE failed to renew their trademark for Hornswoggle, in a sign that a release could be imminent. The trademark covers Hornswoggle's name on posters, trading cards and merchandise. With this news coming a week after Hornswoggle was suspended for a wellness policy violation, several wrestling fans have been speculating on social media and internet forums that the 29 year old could be imminently released. The abandonment of the trademark does seem to indicate no further plans for the leprechaun character, however, a few things should be kept in mind. The abandoned trademark is related to merchandise, his trademark as a wrestler is still active. Also, the abandonment was dated the 11th September, weeks before his wellness policy news. Furthermore, names like the Naomi trademark have been listed as abandoned due to non-response, and clearly she's going nowhere. It could just be the case that this an admin issue, and news of it at the same time as Hornswoggle's suspension has created wild speculation. Still, WWE were doing nothing with Hornswoggle before the suspension, and it is hard to see how he fits in for the future. He's been with WWE for over nine years and is well past his initial relevance.
