How CM Punk Saved Big E's WWE Career
The New Day man tells all in new interview.
The New Day have become one of WWE's most successful, marketable, and popular acts over the past few years, though it may never have happened for the charismatic trio if not for CM Punk's intervention.
New Day powerhouse Big E credited 'The Voice of the Voiceless' with saving his wrestling career during a recent appearance on Barstool Sports' My Mom's Basement.
Speaking on his time in NXT, alongside Dolph Ziggler and AJ Lee on the main roster, and his Intercontinental Title run, E stated that Punk stepped in when his fortunes started fading. "I thought I came up in a good spot where I could branch out and do my own stuff, but it didn’t work out that way," he said. "I had the IC Title run, and I have to give credit to Punk, he pretty much saved my career by putting in a good word for me. got to work Punk, win the IC Title, and I was established then."
Years later, E is one of the most successful tag team wrestlers in WWE history, though the interview also saw him claim that he feels ready for a run at the World Title. If he does it, however, he doesn't "feel the need to turn on Kofi and Woods and leave New Day behind to accomplish that goal."
E and Kingston are currently SmackDown Tag Team Champions, having defeated John Morrison and The Miz for the straps in April.
