With VICE’s stunning Dark Side of the Ring now in the midst of its second season in North America – and with a Season 2 UK premiere tentatively pencilled in for June – we were lucky enough to grab some time with the show’s co-creator and executive producer, Evan Husney.
A long-time wrestling fan, Evan and Jason Eisener are the brains behind Dark Side of the Ring, as they look to explore some of professional wrestling’s more tragic, emotional, or outright shocking stories.
All done with a ridiculously amount of research and a respectful care to the topics on display, Dark Side of the Ring is simply never anything less that must-see television for wrestling fans and non-wrestling fans alike.
In our chat with Evan, we were able to dive deep on dissecting some of wrestling’s darkest days, the delicate nature of dealing with the very real tragedies that have affected those involved, earning the trust of people like Martha Hart and The Godfather, his wish to work with Hulk Hogan, and even hear how he and Jason had tentative plans for an entire documentary series centred on the infamous Benoit Tragedy.
