Rather than the WWE Championship, it was tables and Claymores for the Miz.

Finally, this year's men's Money in the Briefcase is now off the table.

Having been won in fluke fashion by Otis at May's Money in the Bank PPV, the Miz defeated Dozer for the briefcase at the Hell in a Cell event this past October. With a cash-in by the A-Lister having been teased at several points since then, last night saw the Miz use the MITB briefcase to insert himself into Drew McIntyre and AJ Styles' TLC bout.

Unfortunately for the Awesome One, his plan of becoming WWE Champion never came to the fore. Instead, the Miz's night consisted of tables and Claymore Kicks, with McIntyre retaining his title in the PPV's opening contest.

It's been a strange old year for the men's Money in the Bank briefcase. Otis having the briefcase literally land into his arms at the May PPV was a nice moment that definitely took many of us by surprise, but it was always going to be tough to realistically have Otis successfully cash-in and become a World Champion at this point in time - and thus WWE was left with the decision of a failed cash-in or getting the briefcase onto someone else.
