New Details Emerge On WWE's Women's Tournament
Where is the event set to take place?
Although we are still none the wiser with regards to actual competitors for the 32-person women's tournament WWE announced last April, some new information about the event was nevertheless revealed at a WWE earnings call these past few days.
The conference highlighted a number of similarities between the upcoming tournament and last year's Cruiserweight Classic. Chiefly, it's scheduled to be taped in July, will air in a weekly format, and like the sub-205 jamboree seems likely to emanate from Winter Park's Full Sail University. However, other venues have apparently been mooted.
The company also outlined plans to stage the event's finals on a live Network special, tentatively penciled in for 29 August - a Tuesday, if you were wondering.
With tapings set to commence in just under two months, we will probably see some names emerging in the coming weeks. As a point of comparison, WWE revealed all the competitors for the CWC on 13 June last year - precisely a month before the tournament kicked off - though the nature of wrestling reporting being what it is, leaks began, well, leaking, in advance of that. Expect a similar pattern this time around.
