WWE released Steve Cutler out of the blue yesterday, prompting a shocked response from the former Forgotten Son himself, who seemingly didn't see the move coming.
As well as outlining Cutler's apparent heat with Vince McMahon after testing positive for COVID-19, a detailed Fightful Select report on the matter states that while WWE made the decision to let Steve go, the company is keeping the door open for a return later down the line.
On top of this, the report notes the WWE locker-room's sympathy towards Cutler and former tag team partner Wesley Blake in the wake of last year's Jaxson Ryker controversy. Blade and Cutler were seen as being unfairly punished for their Forgotten Sons stablemate's boneheaded social media activity, as both were yanked from television at the same time as Ryker, not returning until early December 2020. Despite doing nothing wrong themselves, Cutler and Blake were off television for seven months.
Recent times had seen Cutler at the Performance Center, taking bumps for Keith Lee, Otis, Omos, and other members of the class ordered to work on their in-ring skills late last year. Steve was reportedly popular among the people he worked with.
