The most anticipated wrestling pay-per-view of the year has come and gone...and it's just the first week of January.

That's right, NJPW's Wrestle Kingdom 12 blew the roof off the Tokyo Dome, setting an incredibly high bar for the rest of 2018's wrestling output, delivering at least two Match of the Year candidates, not to mention several wrestlers' best matches in years.

Over the nine-match, five-hour show, NJPW proved why they're such a popular alternative to WWE, delivering breakneck thrills, shock victories, satisfying title changes, and unrivaled athleticism that'll have fans returning time and time again.

Not every match may have hit the incredible stride of the night's very best bouts, but as is so common with NJPW shows, even the worst match here was still pretty decent.

Picking the match of the night, meanwhile, was no easy feat, and there's likely to be plenty of debate about who truly stole the show. Whatever your opinion, though, most everyone can agree that it was a show for the ages...
