What better way to ease away those New Year back-to-work blues than with five hours of the finest wrestling on the planet?

Indeed, NJPW Wrestle Kingdom has come and gone for another year, and though a few matches perhaps didn't quite reach that top level fans were hoping for, it was still a remarkable event for the most part.

There were at least three Match of the Year contenders in the mix on a show where all eight titles ended up changing hands. Imagine that.

The majority of these wins felt thoroughly earned and established compelling storytelling possibilities moving forward, though, while giving on-the-rise talents their much-awaited due.

Was it the best Wrestle Kingdom ever? Probably not, but occurring as it during an especially tumultuous time of transition for both the industry and NJPW in particular, it served as a fitting send-off for a number of talents who are most likely on their way out the door...
